As I write this, the dew point outside is 82 degrees. They had said last summer that it was impossible for Minneapolis to go over 80, I guess they were wrong like they are most of the time. I’m contemplating going out for just a couple miles tonight, just to say I did it. I’d definitely prefer -30 any day.
After taking it easy a few weeks, I’ve decided to get back into the whole running thing. I had ambitions for the month that proved to be too ambitious, but I’m fine with that. I think I just needed some down time from running day in and day out. Just wasn’t enjoying it anymore. The bad thing was that I didn’t even miss it.
Anyways, this weekend we picked our Ragnar legs. Luckily half of the team didn’t show up, so I pretty much had my choice. I originally had chosen more of a medium difficulty leg, but I decided that I needed to do one of the harder ones. So I ended up with the most difficult leg. Ha. I think it’s around 21 total miles with a brutal uphill second leg. I’m going to channel my inner Dr. Chris who ran the last leg at just under 6:00/mile. It was a legendary run. I’m really looking forward to the race and really should get back on the training wagon.
To help with getting in shape, I made a decision to go on a diet. I’m really hoping to lose around 15 lbs. Since my miles are down right now, I figure this is the best time to do it. So besides really watching what I eat, I’ll be eating more fruits and vegetables, cutting out the pop and ice cream, and the hardest part, cutting out the beer. Eek. It should really help my running. We’ll have to see.
Today was also a day of race registrations. First, I signed up for the Mackinac Island Half Marathon, I had such a great time last year that I had to do it again. This time I’ll be staying on the island and will be attending the closing of the island party. Heard last year that I was a blast.
Then I registered for Big Sur Marathon. It’s one of the races that I’ve dreamed about doing, but always kept thinking about Boston. Since I’m not qualified and there will be no chance of it this year, I decided to sign up. Hoping it lives up to the hype.
Well time to get mentally prepared to do this run tonight…

Great race choices! Sounds like a short time away was a good thing
